One life so make most out of it. November 10, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — Raheel Lakhani @ 6:16 pm

We have one life which is filled with experiences. Every experience helps us to know ourself better and we learn not much then something from it. Then why do we don’t do what we want to do? Maybe it is fear. Fear of anysort is a fear. Fears do have reasons. Reasons which are mostly illogical. Have you seen Lage Raho Munna Bhai and the song Chaar Aaney? In that movie, there was a side character, an old man who thought he has wasted his whole life with doing things which other people needed him to do. Now in his old age, he wanted to do things which he himself wanted to do. If your actions doesn’t hurt or harm anyone then there is no problem in doing those things. Society is there to say things, you have to live with it but if those opinions are generalized, baseless, illogically conservative then you don’t have to agree with it. Do you thing because people are there to talk rubbish so they will do it anyways. Understanding people don’t. Have your stand, enjoy life but don’t harm others nor URSELF!

PS: Do listen to Aaney Chaar Aaney song, if you understand urdu/hindi. Don’t only listen but also ponder.

Be creative with your hobbies. November 3, 2006

I want to share one of my thoughts today which I would have not considered to get published here. This might not turned out as well written piece but it is coming straight from the heart. I can guarantee you on this. It is about hobbies. Many of us have hobbies. Many of us don’t. First of all it is very important to have a hobby. It helps relaxing your mind and body. But do you want to improve its benefit factor then try having hobbies which are also intellectually enriching and fulfilling if self-satisfaction is concerned. It is good to play video games or cook as a hobby. But wouldn’t it be better if those games are something related to your mental capacity or being little creative with your dishes. Photography, Reading, Writing, Dancing, Community work, Music, Painting, Gardening and the list is endless. These are constructive activities. Sometime we are so messed up with our work and we can’t hold interest in our practical life then these jobs(I call them jobs because these are also vital) can also provide you a sense of satisfaction that you are doing something worth it. Like I might not be that much happy with my accounting studies but then Photography, reading and writing gives me a sense of achievement and also satiates my creative side.

Let it go! October 20, 2006

Many of us has a certain type of disease which is worry or I name it as ‘Calling for trouble Virus’. We are so prone to think about things which haven’t taken place in advance, some of them will never happen for sure. Like we might think about illness and then tell exaggerate or complain about it to others 24/7 without thinking upon our wellbeing and in the end we only get Illness because we SO think about it.

If we think about negative things which aren’t there in our lives and worry about it without any reason then we are saying to God please give this problem to me. We are calling for trouble. This is how nature works. If you think bad, your body and mind will surely get its share of bad side-effect. Do you remember the research about effects of your behaviour on water? If not then read this again.

The bottom line is that don’t worry just let it go, be happy, life is to short to waste time on this, keep praying and have strong faith in God. He is with you which is a complete assurance that nothing will go wrong and he will take care of everything.

Happy Living!

The Grease that we all want June 22, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — Raheel Lakhani @ 9:50 pm

Unfortunately nowadays Stress has become a synonym for life. Whenever you ask someone about their life, usually the spit the same word busy/hectic/stressed with no damn time. Is it really a case? I know life is stressful and busy but who are responsible for it?!; maybe us, maybe our unrealistic needs or simply our mindset. The thing is that what free time we do get, we don’t use it a effectively.

If a machine has alot of friction then we use grease to reduce it. Similarly when our mental health has alot of friction a.k.a. Stress then we have to reduce it by any means but then the question arises what will be the grease for us? The problem is that we know but we have never realized that there is a beautiful endless world awaiting for us and to reach it we only have to close our eyes for few minutes after which we will see our life with eyes open and with a different perspective for sure. The grease surely is Meditation, Prayers and Imagination. Taking up a hobby with it can make it even exciting like reading, painting, composing music or anything plain creative.

Worrying itself will never help, the thing which will help is your Faith on God that he will fix everything. So next time when you feel stressed out after a long hard day just close your eyes, not for sleep idiot but for a relaxing and profound meditation.

Even if people around you sting

There was this person who saw a scorpion floundering around in the water. He decide to save it by stretching out his finger, but the scorpion stung him. The man still tried to get the scorpion out of water, but the scorpion stung him again.

A man nearby told him to stop saving the scorpion that keep stinging him. But the person said:
“It is the nature of the scorpion to sting. It is my nature to love. Why should I give up my nature to love just because it is the nature of the scorpion to sting?”

Don’t give up loving.
Don’t give up your goodness.
Even, if people around you sting.

Hazards of Multi-Tasking June 2, 2006

I found it very useful:

Dear Reader,
Have you ever stopped in the middle of a sentence because you lost your train of thought? That happened to me just the other day, and it was a bit embarrassing. Well, if that has happened to you, don’t worry, my friend. You may not be experiencing a “senior moment” — it was probably a case of too much multitasking.
I’ve been noticing more and more reports on research on the effects of too much multitasking. Evidently you can develop short-term memory problems, or have difficulty concentrating, or have gaps in your attention. And that’s not to mention experiencing stress or even physical symptoms, such as a stomach ache or headache.
And it appears that trying to do two or three things at the same time or in quick succession can actually take longer than simply doing them one at a time! This is because when your attention is split, you have less “brainpower” to do each task, and it takes your brain longer to switch from one thing to another. It’s rather like that old Italian proverb, “Often he who does too much does too little.”
At any rate, I’ve developed a little game plan to help me out for those times when I start to feel overwhelmed with the quantity of tasks I need to get done. Maybe it could be helpful for you too. Here it is:
1. Make a list of those things you need to do. Be sure to cross off each one when it is done.
2. Finish what you start. The minute your mind starts drifting off to yet another task, just bring your focus back to what you are doing. If you missed putting that task on your list, write it down, and then get back to the business at hand.
3. Turn off or get away from any distractions – radio, television, phone, computer, pager, etc.
4. Take a break. You’ll come back refreshed and better able to devote your full attention to the task at hand.
And remember, the first rule of focus is, “Wherever you are, be there.”

Wisdom on the bus or… May 26, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — Raheel Lakhani @ 1:20 pm

It is friday so here I am to spread the hope and positive vibes through this blog.

Last week something happened which can change/improve not only my life but yes also yours, after reading this post. I travel by public transport for college and as we all know that life is so busy that we usually dont get ample time to do various things we want to during a span of a day so I usually read a course book or any other book during the journey.. only if I am lucky to get a vacant seat =P which mostly I do.

As usual I was reading my book, while doing that an uncle came and asked me to hold his diary as he was standing. Soon he got a seat behind me. He thanked me for holding his belongings and asked me, “Are you still studying?” I asked in affirmation. It is very odd for people in my country i.e. Pakistan to read books in a bus.. they feel it is very nerdy, again if there is 40% literacy rate which is obviously an overrated figure then you can’t expect anything else but his words had a certain different tone to it. Following it he said this, “Do you want me to give you an advice for getting clever fast?” I said, “Hmm.” as I don’t like to talk to people/strangers in bus.

This was his reply, “Just sit with the people which are older than you and you will become clever very fast. I just did that mistake. (period)” I first found it very stupid but as soon as I gave it a second thought, I got exactly what he wanted to say but I did think and I still do that this statement requires an explanation or say deep interpretation. My stop came just in few minutes and before my departure the old man wished me good luck and I smiled back to him.

The thing is that age brings experience with it and if our social circle has people who are elder than us than not only we can learn from their experiences and prepare ourselves better for the world and its challenges but also it helps us to make good choices and contacts. I guess being in the circle of intellectuals and please not nerdy but the people with enlightening opinions and perspective is always an advantage whether they are younger or older than you because it opens your mindset about certain issues and you get familiar with so many new idea. When we talk about same age conversations there are two sides of it. It helps us in dealing with ourselves in the present time because we might feel same at that age or have same responsibilites et cetera but the other side to it is that it can be a great wastage of time because of all the fun and gossip factor so it is really important to be wise in choosing your company in order to be wise.

So the bottom line is that your observation and listening skills do help you in getting wisdom; and people can learn so much from a good company and experiences.
